consultation for therapists

Opportunities for individual and group consultation for mental health and wellness professionals to facilitate self-awareness, competency, empowerment, and healing for yourself and your clients.

EMBrace shadows

During my 15 years of clinical experience, I have been drawn to populations with complex needs who have been historically underserved, pathologized, and misunderstood: people diagnosed with complex PTSD and dissociative disorders, BIPOC (with a particular interest in those of the Asian diaspora), immigrants and children of immigrants, and those who struggle with substance use disorders and their family members. Not only am I driven to help shed light on these neglected areas of human experience, I believe that doing so can benefit collective consciousness.

I also know how hard it can be to work with these populations. Often labeled “difficult,” they often need the most help, but ironically have the least knowledgeable help available. Clinicians can feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and demoralized because they have insufficient guidance on how to help people with complex presentations—deep pain, intense transference-countertransference enactments, repeated failures by various systems, difficulties with trust, multicultural considerations, and historical and ongoing oppression and stigmatization.

To help these clients, I either sought out specialized training and resources, or—in the case of working with those of the Asian diaspora—created them myself. I now seek to support licensed clinicians working with these populations to regain their confidence and compassion, trust their intuition, and feel better equipped to meet these challenging cases, and ultimately, to reap considerable rewards.

Individual consultation

My consultation style is accessible, flexible, intuitive, pragmatic, and well-informed—drawing on decolonial, relational psychodynamic, Jungian, trauma-informed and Internal Family Systems perspectives.

Though each consultative relationship is responsive to the consultee’s interests and needs, I can provide any or all of the following:

  • didactic knowledge and frameworks for increased clarity and case conceptualization

  • potential interventions that honor the consultee’s intuition, personal style, experience, and knowledge of a client

  • suggestions for maintaining safety and stabilization

  • considerations for deepening the therapeutic alliance

  • compassionate and contained facilitation of consultee’s personal healing and growth that may be interfering with clinical work

I am also committed to psychotherapy as a liberatory practice. In this vein, I enjoy helping licensed BIPOC providers cultivate a nourishing private practice that is aligned with their values; treat racial microaggressions made by clients as teachable, reparative moments; heal from racial trauma; and invite more playfulness and open-heartedness into their work.

Demystifying

the model minority complex

12-week virtual consultation group for asian american psychotherapists and healers

Together, we will explore the “Model Minority complex” - an intertwined set of personal, historical, cultural, and racial stories that cast Asian Americans as docile, hard-working, high-achieving, apolitical, socially inept, self-sacrificing, and inscrutable.

Beyond being a “myth” or “stereotype," these narratives present a gateway through which to unwind from white supremacy, anti-Blackness, and capitalism; colonialism and geopolitical conflict; intergenerational trauma; and migration losses; and to restore reconnection with themselves and the more-than-human world.

Open to Asian American healing practitioners anywhere in the world.
